BIOGRAPHY

Jan is a mission-focused communications strategist with three decades of public relations agency and in-house nonprofit experience. She is passionate about effectively positioning organizations with their key audiences and telling their stories in compelling ways.

Jan oversees the mission focused practice at Issues Management Group, managing a team implementing integrated communications programs and issues management for leading non-profit institutions in education, youth service, women’s equity, affordable housing, the arts, health care, and other mission-focused sectors.

Jan has worked at some of Boston’s most prestigious non-profit organizations. Prior to joining the firm, she served as Chief Marketing Officer for Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, the 10th largest Girl Scout council in the U.S, where she promoted the importance of leadership development for girls, especially through the outdoors and STEM programming.

Before joining Girl Scouts in 2012, Jan held similar roles at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, where her efforts helped to position the organization for operational growth and donor support, and at City Year’s national headquarters during a time of international expansion for the organization. Previously, Jan was Vice President, Consumer Practice, in the Boston office of MS&L Public Relations where, among other projects, she oversaw the Monopoly World Championship. She also spent nearly a decade working in public television.

Her passion for mission-driven organizations formed early in her career. At Cone Communications, she managed an award-winning multi-faceted campaign for 3M’s sponsorship of the Olympic Games, had a key role in promoting Reebok’s sponsorship of the Amnesty International Human Rights Now! World Concert Tour, and led a hydration education campaign for Evian.

As a volunteer, Jan helps plan an annual historic house tour that raises money for her town’s history museum and its educational programs. She previously was a Big Sister and a literacy tutor.

Jan earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Union College.
